Dean Parkin

, 40
I'm a poet based in Suffolk, England. A cross between Dean Martin and Philip Larkin, I used to be older than I looked but I'm now catching up fast.

Air to Share - Best of Traydio #1 (pilot)

Really enjoyed the pod (and not just cos I'm mentioned) - 30 mins that whizzed by! Perfect bank holiday entertainment, while watching the traffic coagulate outside my window....

I reckon Carl and Francesca could become the Richard and Judy of Traydio (only better!)!

Paul, nice of you to ask! Let me explain...

Thankfully I had my old surfboard with me and as the lava wave started to come towards me, I punched a lot of holes in it with a handy bradawl and then attached the hose (that you left behind) from my backpack water tank to the base of the board, allowing the water to drain through the holes.

This meant that the water had the same sort of effect as spitting on a hot iron plate - the droplets seem to dance on the plate separated from the heat by a thin layer of the steam.

And it was this effect that allowed me to surf the lava wave! Apparently this is known as 'sizzleboarding', which is pretty much as dangerous as it gets. It's an old trick I picked up when I was a kid, watching WHY DON"T YOU? in the summer holidays

Hey, if only you'd stuck around, you could have had a go on my board! Maybe next time?

Hi Francesca - I did come back from Etna, I mean, someone had to come back for the Bourbons didn't they? I mean, jammy dodgers? They're not the biscuit for volcano trips....

Carl - thanks for this - flattered and delighted about 'piece of parkin'. Hopefully people won't think it's anything to do with Ginger Parkin, apparently a yucky cake from the north and no relation. But thanks for the comments and encouragement!

Daniel - I'd be delighted if you used it in this way. It seems like it was made for it! Thanks for getting in touch

Thanks for the comment Matt - in much the same way I can play the guitar but only the song 'Bobby Shaftoe', I can draw but only pictures of me. However, I can't draw a picture of me playing Bobby Shaftoe on the guitar because I'm not very good at drawing hands.
