The 20th June each year is International Refugee Day. In the UK, it's also Refugee Week during the week of the 15th to 21st June.

Jo Jamison is Campaigns Officer at Operation Noah, a Christian campaign which focuses on the issue of climate change.  In this package for Refugee Week Radio, she explores the relationship between refugees and climate change and poses some important questions.

At last, a profound piece on climate crisis!

Though I think the predictions are dangerous, the numbers could be much higher and the event much sooner, and we might not get off so lightly as implied, however, it explains why conserving civilization is important. Can you imagine the degree of chaos with Britain being one of the few havens for life and no civil structure - including law and order. George Monbiot wrote recently that the defence budget should be diverted to environment because defence is no longer an issue. That's just not straight thinking. Democracy could no longer be an issue. After all, democracy had its hand in getting us into this mess in the first place, like it or not. Expect a great loss of freedom or chaos and death - I hope that's in the transition bible.

In the meanwhile, enjoy life while you can. And be prepared!

How many people could the UK support and be sustainable?

Who would you save? Who would you turn away?

What new legislation would be introduced to enforce sustainability and how much would it matter if such laws cut into human rights for the benefit of the majority and survival?

Glad to hear your perceptive voice on here again Mr Russell

I really like this quote:

“The shit is hitting the fan now,” says Matt Savinar. “It’s just happening in slow motion, and it’s not hitting equally in all places.”

Familiar with Savinar?

yes, I still get the copper emails once in a while and pop in to read more.

Not heard of Matt Savinar. I will check him out.

You begin to see why things aren't happening, it's the wrong message. The right message people won't believe. I heard a news report talking about benefits of climate change recently - hey, soon we are going to plant bananas in the UK! That's all right, then. On traffic roundabouts, no doubt....
